An act of kindness
On Monday evening, Nov. 17, 2008, at 6:15pm, I walked from the parking lot at D building to the cafeteria at Marianas High School. I was picking up my grandson at rehearsal for The Secret Garden, a play being performed by the International Thespian Society.
As I was walking across the campus in the dark, suddenly beside me was Mr. Ballesteros, the security guard at the high school from 6pm until 6am. We spoke and he accompanied me along the walkway to the cafeteria. Little did I imagine that several hours later, Mr. Ballesteros would give his life protecting those grounds.
Possibly his last act was one of kindness to an older person. I know that I will always be grateful that he was there, and I just wanted to thank him posthumously for being on the job that night. I sincerely hope that the person or persons who committed this horrible crime will be brought to justice. If they won’t turn themselves in, then hopefully someone who knows something about this issue will come forward with information. My condolences to his family and co-workers; he will be remembered in my thoughts and prayers.
