Hitcher in stabbing case arrested
Police arrested Thursday night a male teenager who allegedly stabbed and seriously injured a 33-year-old man who had given him a free ride.
Police Officer 2 Jason Tarkong said the 17-year-old suspect was apprehended for assault with a dangerous weapon, robbery, and car theft.
The suspect was arrested Wednesday at 9pm. He was taken to the Superior Court yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing before associate judge David A. Wiseman.
Tarkong said the suspect was just recently released from detention at the Department of Youth Services Juvenile Detention Facility.
The victim, a Chinese, sustained lacerations and stab wounds to the right arm, chest, rib, and stomach.
DPS received a 911 call Monday night about an injured person near LJ’s Market in Chalan Kanoa.
When a police officer arrived, he saw the victim lying on the ground, bleeding from the right arm and chest.
The victim told the officer that he gave the suspect a ride in his car from Happy Market in As Lito to Chalan Kanoa.
Upon reaching the Soledad Loop, a secondary road behind LJ Market in Chalan Kanoa, the suspect allegedly reached for the ignition of the car, turned the engine off, and got the car keys.
The suspect then began stabbing the victim. The victim managed to get away through the driver’s door. The suspect then drove off with the car.
The victim yelled for help and several people nearby assisted him and called police.
The victim’s car—a gray 1995 Toyota Tercel—was later found abandoned on Haiguas Lane in As Perdido.
Tarkong said that on Wednesday night, Detective Patrick Maanao met with the victim, who disclosed that the suspect is related to his wife. Maanao learned that the suspect had called the victim for a ride Monday night.
