The widow of slain security guard Efren L. Ballesteros has decided to go ahead with the christening of their five-month-old son today, Saturday.

Adelaida Abella told Saipan Tribune that the christening of their baby will be held at Mt. Carmel Church in Chalan Kanoa at 11am.

Abella said she and the family decided to have the baby christened before Ballesteros’ body is flown off to Isabela province in the Philippines.

“We just followed his [Ballesteros] wish when he was alive to have the christening here,” she said in Tagalog.

Abella said she and her husband were actually planning to hold the christening on Nov. 30.

When Ballesteros was found dead Tuesday morning at the Marianas High School campus in Susupe, the wife was at that moment waiting for him to arrive home because they were set to process the papers for the christening.

She said it was at 10am when a friend called her on the phone that Ballesteros had been found dead at MHS.

“I was so nervous. I didn’t know what to do then. Then my husband’s employer called me, then a detective,” Abella said.

She said it was more difficult when she picked up their 12-year-old son at Hopwood School because he was not aware that his father had been killed.

Abella said it was hard for her to tell their son but a friend who saw them came up to them and asked about the death of Ballesteros.

“While we were in the car, I then told my son what happened to his father. He didn’t say anything; he just cried,” the teary-eyed Abella recalled.

Police have already arrested the three suspects—Eric Rabauliman, 18; Randy Igisomar, 16; and Edward Blas, 16. The three are all students at MHS.

Police say Igisomar and Rabauliman have confessed to the crime, saying that they attacked the security guard with a piece of wood, a PVC pipe, and a rebar before breaking into several classrooms at MHS where they stole laptops and money.

Abella said Ballesteros’ wallet containing $300 cash and a wristwatch were stolen.
