Teaching travel agents, media about the CNMI

Travel agents and media representatives from major cities across Japan recently attended the annual Marianas Tourism Academy 2008, held Nov. 10-13. Sponsored by the Marianas Visitors Authority along with the Japan Saipan Travel Association, this popular event enrolled nearly 50 people.

The program provided the CNMI’s travel industry affiliates the opportunity to familiarize themselves with CNMI attractions, activities and facilities. Through the academy, participants learned more about the unique CNMI features that would appeal to Japanese tourists. They experienced optional tours and hotel inspections, as well as site visits of businesses that specialize in marketing segments such as Active Senior, Spa, Wedding, Island Tours, Group, and Marathon/Walking. A highlight of the Academy was a sunset dinner held on Managaha Island.

This annual Tourism Academy increases knowledge of the CNMI by frontline travel agency personnel. As Perry Tenorio, MVA managing director, noted, “Everyone wins. The Academy offers learning opportunities for those who deal directly with our tourists and help them plan their trips to Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Plus it provides a chance for CNMI tourism professionals to host these experts and get to know them in a positive and meaningful way.”

This year’s Tourism Academy was made possible through the support of several MVA members: Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines, JSTA, Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Aqua Resort Club, Hafa Adai Beach Hotel, Tasi Tours, Sand Castle, Saipan Sanko, and other optional tour companies.
