Celis’ three homers lift Freedom Air to win
Shortstop Reno Celis was on target making homers in all his three trips at-bat to lead Freedom Air to an easy 14-4 victory over the Beach Boys in the Budweiser 2008 Inter-Government/Business Softball League Friday night at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
Celis started the bottom of the first with a three-run homer, while Roy Celis also connected a two-run homer earlier than Reno to give Freedom Air a commanding, 12-2 lead.
Roy homered twice in the first inning, as his second trip at-bat resulted to another two-run homer. Roy failed to duplicate Reno’s feat when the former flied out to right field.
First baseman B.J. Sablan gave the Beach Boys their two other runs when he blasted a two-run homer at the top of the second.
Reno Celis completed his amazing performance at the plate, drilling solo homers in the second and third innings.
The win was Freedom Air’s fourth in as many games, while the loss was the Beach Boys first in four matches.
[B]DCCA 14, Legislature 4[/B]Defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs remained unbeaten in four games sharing the lead with Freedom Air after downing the Legislature, 14-4.
Pitcher Mel Sakisat, first baseman Joey Dela Cruz, third baseman Peter Tomokane, and extra hitter Julian Camacho connected on one homers apiece in DCCA’s 10-run win.
Second baseman Ben Tagabuel started things out for DCCA making a three-run triple at the bottom of the first to give the defending champion a 4-0 advantage.
Sakisat, Tomokane, and Camacho hit a two-run homer each in the second inning as DCCA began pulling away despite the Legislature scoring three runs, 11-3.
DCCA’s defense allowed the Legislature to score only one run in the last three innings to keep its undefeated record.
The Legislature absorbed its first loss in four matches.

SaipanCell 15, PSS 11[/B]
In the lone game Thursday night, SaipanCell ended its two-game losing skid after outclassing the Public School System, 15-11.
It was a come-from-behind win for SaipanCell, which was down, 5-11, after five complete innings.
A 10-run top of the sixth put SaipanCell in the driver’s seat for the first time and it preserved the win after shutting out PSS at the bottom of the sixth.
Shortstop Tyrone Omar led SaipanCell’s recovery making a two-run single in the sixth inning. Six of SaipanCell’s runs at the top of the sixth were scored off PSS’ errors.
The two other games Thursday night were cancelled due to a power outage.
[B]WOMEN’SDCCA 15, CUC 14[/B]
In the lone women’s match Friday night, defending champion DCCA notched its third win in a row after edging the Commonwealth Utilities Corp, 15-14.
Leftfielder Jennifer Teigita led DCCA going 3-for-4 at-bat and posting three RBIs.
DCCA is in second place in the team standings with a 3-1 record. NMC leads the division with a 2-0 slate, while CUC has yet to win a game in three matches.
