Saipan World Resort and MCV Broadband reported a sell-out crowd in the Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar De La Hoya fight pay per view live at the Royal Taga Hall and Red Box Sports Bar yesterday.

“This is the biggest ever in attendance,” MCV Broadband system manager Mark Birmingham said after the match, which was won by Pacquiao via TKO in the 8th of a 12-round scheduled non-title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Birmingham estimated the predominantly Filipino crowd to be about over 500 at the Royal Taga Hall with $30 entrance fee and about 90 at the VIP Room at the Red Box Sports Bar, which charged $50 that included a lunch buffet.

“We have a great crowd. This is our sixth fight and we did not experience any technical problems. We would like to thank our major sponsors, MARPAC, World Resort, Docomo, and Dial Rent To Own,” Birmingham said.

World Resort banquet and restaurant manager Ronald Sanchez said they hope to have a bigger one next time.

One of those who watched at the VIP Room said it was a tense atmosphere.

“Pacquiao took all the rounds except for round three. But since the first round, Pacquiao gave all the punches,” said Ben Taitaino.

Jojo Camacho of MARPAC said they like to do this again.

“We love Manny Pacquiao. Everybody enjoyed watching the fight,” he said.

John Camacho of Summer Holiday said it was a great fight.

“I thought it will end in three rounds but it lasted eight. It was all Pacquiao but still it was a great fight,” he said.

Commenting on Pacquiao’s victory, John Camacho said, speed did it for the Filipino champion.

“Aside from the speed, Pacquiao was aware how to counter De La Hoya’s attack. But using speed as Pacquiao’s offense, I think that put De la Hoya’s in check,” he said.
