A week after winning the Budweiser Open 8-Ball League, PTI Voyagers was caught off guard by deposed champion Krystal Docomo Hustlers in their head-to-head match in the first week of the 2008 Budweiser Cup last Tuesday.

Hustlers took four out of six games against their bitter rivals despite Voyagers drawing first blood after Rolly Villanueva and Roman Rodriguez teamed up to defeat Erwin Gomez and Rowell Mariano in the first game.

Hustlers’ Jerry Soriano and Senen Pangilinan tied the match shortly after as they got the better of Voyagers’ R.J. Mascarinas and Luis Fajardo.

Villanueva then staked Voyagers to a 2-1 lead following his win over Robert Sanciangco, but his team’s celebration proved short-lived as Hustlers went on to win the remaining three singles matches.

Soriano got the ball rolling for Hustlers as he took out Roman Rodriguez. Mariano also gave Hustlers a win when he waylaid Mascarinas. Pangilinan then delivered the coupe de grace when he beat Fajardo for the 4-2 victory.

In other matches in the Agingan Division, Islander Rent A Car triumphed over USSP Wat-Ever, 4-1; and Godfather’s Rock Steady swept Coral Reef Shark Attack, 4-0.

In the Obyan Division, Primo’s Home Boys nearly skunked Krystal Perfect Spotters, 4-1; and D’Pirates Huwa won a 4-2 decision against USSP Fotten Palau.

The SBA-Budweiser Cup continues tomorrow night with Hustlers taking on Islander Rent A Car at Round Two Bar and Grill in the Agingan Division.
