No to proposed As Matuis resort
The Tatao Tano CNMI Inc. is in complete opposition to the proposed land lease by Flame Sako Resort Hotel and Spa in As Matuis for a resort plan. The 10.9 hectares of property located immediately north of Palms Resort is a huge public land being sought for such a resort.
The concern that we have with this proposal is the inclusion of a popular, developed beachfront called PauPau Beach Park, which is not being mentioned by anyone. We are at this point disappointed with this issue for it is an injustice to our community and especially to our people utilizing the said area on a daily basis. Our government, the Legislative Branch and the Department of Public Lands need to show some respect for the general public being who have strived hard for many years in the development, protection and upkeep of the beach park.
We will be attending and following this issue closely to ensure that our community is not chased out of their public beach. Our community must realize the freedom one has in the use of PauPau Beach vs. a proposed hotel resort. Currently it’s free to use but with a resort in place one would have to pay a fee just to swim in their swimming pool, to include non-access to the beachside
