The Saipan Pacific Winds, the CNMI’s sole community concert band, is busy preparing for a fundraising Christmas concert to benefit the family of murdered security guard Efren Ballesteros.

Lois DeWitt of the Saipan Pacific Winds told Saipan Tribune yesterday that they are going to hold the concert for a cause on Dec. 22 at 7pm at the Pacific Islands Club’s Charley’s Cabaret in San Antonio.

“It’s free to the community. We want to invite the community to come and donate for the Ballesteros family,” said Lois DeWitt, whose husband, William DeWitt, is the band’s conductor.

The band is encouraging businesses and community members to support the concert for a cause.

“The board was very saddened with the death of Ballesteros. They want to dedicate the concert to him and his family,” Mrs. Dewitt said.

It will be the Saipan Pacific Winds’ seasonal Christmas program.

Pacific Winds, which is composed of more than 40 members, is a non-profit performing arts organization.

The Saipan Southern High’s Manta Ray Band is also joining the concert.

Ballesteros, 45, was found dead at Marianas High School campus in Susupe in the morning of Nov. 18, 2008. He received massive injuries to the face and head caused by blunt objects. He also suffered a possible fractured skull, police said.

Ballesteros’ wallet containing $300 cash and a wristwatch were reportedly stolen. He had two minor children, including a five-month old baby, on Saipan.

Three teenagers—Edward Blas, Randy Igisomar, and Eric Rabauliman—are being charged in the case.
