Student chosen for HR scholarship
“My family and I are very grateful for HHHRA’s support and kind generosity,” Sablan said. “Much of my hard work is for my family and for those who believe in me and have helped me along the way.”
In addition to her studies, Sablan actively participates as a member of the HPU International Chorale, HPU Society for HR Management Lokahi Chapter (SHRM Lokahi), National Society for HR Management, and is the secretary for HPU Hafa Adai (Marianas) Club.
Sablan is originally from Saipan, and has chosen HR management as her career goal due to her family background.
“My mother and grandfather have been working in personnel management and HR management for a long time and are my biggest mentors,” she said. “I chose to work in HR because I feel I can help groups of people overcome some of their everyday challenges, and the service itself is both challenging and fulfilling.”
After graduating from HPU with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Development, Sablan plans to work toward a master’s degree in Human Resource Management.
“I hope to work in Hawaii for a while and then eventually return to Saipan to give back to my community,” she said. “It is my hope to, one day, promote HR at the local college and even at the high school level.”
Hawaii Pacific University is the state’s largest private university with more than 8,000 students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. HPU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Council on Social Work Education, and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. (HPU)
