The parish priest of Kristo Rai church is scheduled to leave Saipan this afternoon, not because of a permanent re-assignment but for a monthlong vacation in the Philippines.

In a telephone conversation yesterday, Fr. Glen Ragsag disproved speculations that he had been booted out from his post and that he is going home permanently.

Ragsag said he is going home just to unwind because there was no chance for him to do so during the holidays.

He urged people to refrain from making false statements about his trip because it is just a vacation.

“There were just some misinterpretations,” he said.

He said this is the time to heal wounds and he hopes that things would become brighter once he returns.

He said his plane ticket shows that he is set to come back to Saipan on Feb. 11.

It would be recalled that Ragsag was dragged into the center of a controversy at the Kristo Rai Church when a member of the Parish Pastoral Council allegedly berated and humiliated in public a female Filipino church worker after the Dawn Mass on Dec. 27.

The council member allegedly told the worker that the Kristo Rai church is not for Filipinos and told her that she can “tell that to the priest, I don’t care.”

According to reports, the council was also attempting to petition for the removal of Ragsag as parish priest.

Bishop Tomas A. Camacho met with Ragsag and the council members a day after the incident was reported in the media.

The bishop could not be reached for comment as of press time.
