Nine individuals were elected to the 2009 NMASA Board during the first meeting of the year of the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association Thursday night at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Named to the NMASA Board were Jeff Race, Rose Igitol, Tony Rogolifoi, Elias Rangamar, Nick Swaim, Gabriel White, Michael A. White, Kurt Barnes, and Jess Wabol.

Michael A. White is NMASA’s current president and is expected to call a meeting before the month ends to elect the new officers of the board.

Race represents Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association to the NMASA Board, while Rogolifoi and Igitol are both from Saipan Major League. Rangamar and Barnes are from Northern Marianas Athletics, Gabriel White from Basketball Association of Northern Mariana Islands, Swaim from Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, and Wabol of the Refaluwasch Golf Association.

Meanwhile, after the election of the NMASA board members, the association discussed preparations for the NMASA Annual Sports Banquet.

The proposed date for the affair is Feb. 19 with the venue to be named later.

The annual event will honor the top performers of 2008. This include the athletes of the month (from January to December) and the Coach of the Year.

From the athletes who claimed monthly plums, NMASA will pick the 2008 Male and Female Student Athletes of the Year and the Male and Female Athlete of the Year.

NMASA members will be given copies of the list of nominees for the top athletes of the year awards and selection are expected to be made in the group’s next meeting in February.
