The Division of Immigration’s crackdown on suspected illegal aliens have resulted in the arrest of two persons, including one who has allegedly been overstaying for almost a decade now.

Guo Can Yang, male, 45, and Xiuying Guo, 45, female, both Chinese nationals were taken to the Superior Court for a bail hearing last Friday afternoon.

According to Immigration, Yang has overstayed in the CNMI for over nine years and six months, while Guo has overstayed for over two years.

The court imposed a $500 cash bail plus $4,500 unsecured bond for the temporary release of Yang; it imposed a $100 cash bail and $900 unsecured bond on Guo.

The two were ordered to appear in court on Jan. 22 at 2pm to explain why they shouldn’t be deported from the CNMI.

Immigration investigator John Peter stated in his report that police officer Chris Guerrero had informed Immigration last Wednesday that Yang was being held for questioning in connection with the theft of copper wire.

Peter said he responded and arrested Yang after the latter admitted that he has no labor case and has overstayed in the CNMI. Peter said that Yang’s nonresident worker’s entry permit expired on June 18, 1999.

Immigration records indicate that Yang used to be a farmer.

As for Guo, Peter said they were conducting a “High-5 Operation” (crackdown against illegal aliens) Thursday night in western Garapan when they observed the respondent with another female Chinese national near the Duty Free area, trying to pick up a Japanese male tourist.

Peter said he arrested Guo after she failed to provide any valid labor or immigration document and identification.

The investigator said Immigration records show that Guo has overstayed in the CNMI for over two years now.

Records indicate that Guo used to work as a waitress.
