Rope recovered among remains found in Marpi
A rope was among the evidence recovered at the scene where the remains of a person believed to be the missing Filipino surveyor, Alex M. Matubis, were found.
A police officer confirmed with the Saipan Tribune that investigators found a rope at the scene where the skeletal remains were spotted by a farmer in a secluded farm in Marpi last Saturday.
The officer, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, refused to elaborate exactly where the rope was found “as investigation is ongoing in the case.”
Initial reports indicated that the person probably committed suicide by hanging but investigators are still not making a conclusion as the cause of death has yet to be determined.
Chief Prosecutor Kevin Lynch on Wednesday said they will consult Guam’s chief medical examiner, Dr. Aurelio Espinola, to determine the cause of death of the remains.
Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said yesterday that detectives are still examining the evidence taken from the scene.
“At this time, we can only release information that will not hinder the investigation of the case,” Ogumoro said.
The 47-year-old Matubis was reported missing since July 30 last year. His company-owned service pickup was recovered near Kalabera Cave last Aug. 19.
The farm where the remains were found is about a 10-minute drive west of Kalabera Cave, according to DPS.
