A man is now in a coma after he was attacked, possibly by two men, while a woman was seriously injured during an armed robbery in separate incidents on Saipan last Friday and yesterday.

A 44-year-old Palauan man suffered major injuries during the attack. As of yesterday, he was still in coma at the Commonwealth Health Center, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The second victim, a Korean woman, suffered multiple lacerations to the back of head, contusions and abrasions to the face and body. She is currently under observation at CHC.

DPS spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said the Palauan man was found lying on his back on the main road in front of Leo Poker in San Jose early Friday morning.

A witness told responding police officers that he heard screams from outside his home and when he checked he saw the man lying on the roadway.

The witness saw two men running north toward San Jose Mart.

Ogumoro said the second incident happened outside the New Fresh Market in Chalan Laulau early yesterday morning.

Ogumoro said the Korean woman was attacked by a masked man with a blunt object during a robbery at the parking lot of the store.

After hitting the victim on the head with a blunt object and taking her purse, the suspect fled into the grassy area across the road.

A witness brought the victim to CHC.

Responding police officers later recovered the victim’s purse in the grassy area where the suspect had fled.

Crime scene investigators recovered from the grassy area a piece of wood that had bloodstains on it. Investigators also found another 2 x 2 piece of wood near the scene.

No one has been arrested yet in both cases as of yesterday.
