Andersen’s take on federalization
Someone once admonished that people who live in glass houses must not hurl rocks against their neighbors. In brief, our country has used “kaboom diplomacy” over the last 60 years against “rogue countries” until it secures total submission.
It may have worked under the old mouthwash of “national interest” but the dire consequence is the emergence of suicidal non-conventional soldiers today hailing from among religious warriors in Muslim countries who have organized against the West.
Are they interested in the destruction of simple islanders living under the dictates of a mighty nuclear power? Isn’t CINPAC Honolulu the nerve center of the Pentagon? Who among Asian countries is going to challenge the firepower of the strongest navy on earth?
The use of the fear rhetoric isn’t making any headway here. Like other states in the union now challenging the federal government against intrusion of their sovereign rights, we also want the same as penned under the Covenant agreement. This is the genesis of the federal lawsuit seeking to protect what’s ours under a U.S. public law.
We ask for nothing more. We seek for an inclusive participation in the formulation of federal policies affecting these isles. We too are tired of hearing old commands like, “don’t watch what we do; listen to what we tell you to do.” Eh, shouldn’t the growth and maturity processes be allowed to take its full course? I am sure you have gone through these processes too, right?
