Budweiser caging playoffs moved
The start of the playoff round in the 2009 BANMI/Budweiser Basketball League has been moved from March 20 to March 30 to give teams a week to rest.
All seven teams will advance to the playoffs with the CNMI Nationals assured of the No. 1 seeding and a bye in the first round. The Nationals finished the double round-robin regular season with a 9-3 record.
Currently in second place is the Ol’Aces (7-4), followed by IT&E (7-4), Diamond Fixers (6-5), Quichocho Law Office (5-7), Docomo (5-7), and the Runnin’ Rebels (2-10).
The last game in the regular season was played last night with the Ol’Aces battling Diamond Auto Care. Results of the match were unavailable at press time.
If the Ol’Aces win, they will take the No. 2 spot and will duel the Runnin’ Rebels in Game 2 of the start of the playoffs on March 30 at 8pm. Game 1 will have the No. 4 team squaring off with the No. 5 squad at 6:30pm.
The playoffs will continue on April 1 and will feature the No. 3 team colliding with the No. 6 squad.
The Nationals will begin their finals bid also on April Fool’s against the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 match.
The playoff round will have a double-elimination format.
The championship game is set for April 13. If the team in the loser’s bracket wins the first game in the finals, there will be a deciding match on March 15.
