Tagaman relay also belongs to Rezne and company
Swimmer Rezne Wong and biker Renato Calage took a different runner in Cesar Danao, but still produced the same results, topping the relay division of the 20th Tagaman Triathlon.
Wong of Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan and Calage, who won the relay race in the 2009 XTERRA Saipan Championship with Matt Mancao as their runner, posted the fastest times in the 1.5-kilometer swim (25:25) and 60-km bike (1:49:23) legs for relay to give their team the needed cushion. Danao capped the title win in the 15-km run part, timing in at 1:08:15 (third best) for the team’s total time of three hours, 23 minutes, 03 seconds.
The trio was more than three minutes ahead of second placers Cooper Graf, Butch Sublemente, and Tom Linden.
Cooper was second overall out of the PIC waters with his time of 26:33, while Sublemente finished second (relay only) in the bike leg, submitting 1:50:03. Sublemente could have recorded a better time than Calage, but the former had a flat tire midway in the race. Linden tallied only the fourth best time (1:10:08) in the run leg of the relay for a second best time of 3:26:44.
Jack “The Road Runner Bunny” submitted the second best time in the run portion of the race with his 1:05:49, but he and swimmer Andrew Buitrago (26:46) and biker Florence Antonio (1:55:57) only finished third.
Completing the Top 5 were the teams of Katsuo Kawamura and Kiyoko Takahashi and Grace Kimball, Tim Lang, and Gabbie Owen
Kawamura did the swim (35:12) and bike (1:56:15) legs and Takahashi finished the race, posting the best time in the run portion in the relay at 1:03:11 for the fourth best time of 3:34:38.
Grace Kimball of Saipan Swim Club was seventh overall in the swim leg, timing in at 30:45, while Lang and Owen logged 1:55:33 and 1:35:02 in the bike and run portions, respectively, for the team’s total time of 4:01:20.
Grace’s brother, Andrew, teamed up with Tinian’s Janet King and John Douglas and the group finished sixth with a total time of 4:03:03. Andrew, the youngest participant in the swim leg at 11, was the 10th overall finisher out of 69 swimmers, clocking in at 30:51. King posted 2:16:31, while Douglas recorded 1:15:41
