The Rangers continued their winnings ways in the 2009 Budweiser Saipan Major League Baseball, whipping D-9ers, 14-2, Wednesday night at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

Coming into Wednesday’s game, the Rangers were riding on a 10-game winning streak and got their 11th in a row against one loss after outclassing D-9ers the whole night. The win ended D-9ers’ three-game winning streak and boosted the Rangers’ bid for the pennant. The Rangers absorbed their lone loss so far in the tournament against defending champion Rock Steady, 5-6, during the league’s opening in March.

Benwachi Taisacan went 3-for-5 at bat for the Rangers and had a two-run homer at the top of the sixth inning to spark the team’s breakaway. Rangers had a five-run top of the six, turning a 5-2 lead to a 10-2 advantage after six complete innings.

D-9ers posted their two runs in the fourth inning with Greg Camacho scoring on Jess Iguel’s error and Jeff Tenorio making it home in the fifth inning on a Pat Camacho single before being shutout by the Rangers defense in the last four innings.

Roy Celis and Pat Alepuyo both went only 2-for-6 at the plate for the Rangers, but they had two RBIs each. Jess Iguel, Peter Tomokane, Dave Camacho, and J.J. Laniyo added one RBI apiece in the Rangers’ lopsided win.

Tanapag Falcons thwarted Rock Steady, 13-5, in last Monday night’s game, handing the latter its second straight loss.

J.D. Dikito went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored only one run, but had two RBIs. J.R. Suel also had two RBIs and was 2-for-5 at bat, making two runs and a double.

A nine-run bottom of the sixth gave the Falcons the needed cushion to stun the defending champions, who lost to D-9ers, 10-11, last week.

Rock Steady was still ahead, 4-3, after six and a half innings when Suel’s two-run single led Falcons’ rally. Falcons scored five more earned runs and had two more runners reaching home plate on Rock Steady’s error at the bottom of the sixth to take a commanding 12-4 lead.

Rock Steady never recovered from there, tallying only one run in the last three innings. Oliver Secharmidal gave the defending champions their last run, making it to home plate in the seventh inning on a passed ball.
