Ex-convict beats up male friend at Tank Beach
A man who is still on probation for rape was arrested for taking an Office of Personnel Management employee to Tank Beach in Kagman where he allegedly beat up the victim, forced him to strip naked, and threatened to kill him.
Dickson Cosmes, 24, was arrested Monday afternoon and taken to the Superior Court yesterday morning for assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a $6,000 cash bail for Cosmes’ temporary liberty. Preliminary hearing was set for June 3 at 9am.
The victim, Antonio Mendiola Camacho, an OPM staff who also works part-time as a cashier at a Garapan store, was treated at the Commonwealth Health Center for a swollen left eye and cut to the eyelid. He complained of body pain and had bruises in the back, buttocks, and rib cage.
Detective Simon T. Manacop, who interviewed the victim at CHC Saturday, stated in a report that Camacho had picked up his friend, Cosmes, at the latter’s residence in San Jose Friday night to join some friends at the 13 Fishermen’s Park in Garapan for some drinks. At 10pm, Camacho told Cosmes they had to leave because he still had to work in the morning.
While driving, an argument erupted between Cosmes and Camacho. When they arrived at the San Jose Motel where Cosmes is staying, the defendant took the car keys from Camacho and drove to Tank Beach in Kagman where he then dragged Camacho to the shoreline.
Cosmes allegedly forced Camacho to strip then punched and kicked him in the face and body. Cosmes and grabbed a piece of wood and hit Camacho with it repeatedly. He also told the victim to go into the water and kill himself or else he would kill him. Camacho begged Cosmes to stop because he needed medical attention.
A few minutes later, the defendant told Camacho to go back inside the car and put on his wet clothes.
Camacho begged to be taken to CHC, but the defendant instead drove the car for two to three hours in Kagman, Tanapag, San Roque, and then San Jose. While in the car, the defendant punched the victim in the stomach and face.
Cosmes later gave Camacho his cell phone, which the victim used to call his mother, telling her to meet him at CHC.
After he dropped off Cosmes at a pavilion across Morgen Building in San Jose, Camacho proceeded to CHC for medical treatment.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said CHC called DPS on Saturday at 3:50am to report the incident involving Camacho.
According to court records, in June 2001, Cosmes, who was then 16 years old, beat up and raped a Chinese woman who was showering inside her apartment. The defendant also took the victim’s $20 cash.
In December 2001, Cosmes pleaded guilty to rape. Then Superior Court Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan sentenced Cosmes to five years in prison and placed him on 10 years of probation.
In 2001, the then juvenile was also charged with robbery, aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
