A woman has sought help from the Saipan Department of Public Safety after her son, a minor, was allegedly beaten up inside a car’s trunk by a jealous cousin on Tinian last June 10.

The woman, who flew in from Hawaii last week after learning about the incident, decided to seek the help of DPS Commissioner Ramon Mafnas after the Tinian police allegedly failed to arrest the 18-year-old suspect.

The mother, who asked not to be identified at this time, told Saipan Tribune Friday that Mafnas immediately assigned an investigator to look into the case after learning about her complaint.

The mother said that the investigator called Tinian DPS and apparently received the same “runaround.”

“Unfortunately up and until today [Friday], there has not been any arrest for anything,” she said.

The beating reportedly happened in front of You Save Mart in San Jose near the Tinian police station.

The 14-year-old victim had just come from a friend’s birthday party with some companions and had decided to stop at the store to buy some drinks.

The victim’s group, however, saw the suspect’s car in the store’s parking lot. The victim told his companions to hide him in the car’s trunk because his cousin would be jealous if he learns that his girlfriend was with the victim’s group.

The suspect, however, forcibly opened the car’s truck and punched the victim several times, resulting in the victim losing consciousness. The victim’s friends then called police.

The victim was later reportedly taken to the Tinian Health Center for injuries in the head and face.

“He punched him in the truck. He’s very jealous. He doesn’t want anybody next to his girlfriend, even his cousin,” the mother said.

The mother said she kept calling Tinian DPS, but police just gave her the runaround. “They cannot even give me a police report number,” she added.
