The staff of the Saipan Mayor’s Office Dog Control Program and the Department of Public Works helped clean up the San Antonio Manhoben Center grounds yesterday.

Ray B. Lizama, Dog Control Program director, said that volunteers cut the overgrown grass and took care of the debris and trash in the area, including piles of trimmed trees and other trash.

Lizama disclosed that he was approached by center coordinator Frances Hill to ask for their assistance in clearing the area, which is near the San Antonio Church.

“This is one way for us to utilize the area and bring it back to the community,” he told Saipan Tribune, adding that yesterday was the only free time they had and the equipment was also available.

The Dog Control Program is currently holding its registration in San Antonio, which is scheduled to end on Friday.

According to Lizama, the staff were all willing to help in the cleanup. “It was in their interest to do it.”

Lizama added, “I think our program is not only to catch dogs but also to assist the community. In any situation like this, when we have the time, we like to give back to the community by helping people out.”
