Kukunitus Program enjoys ‘great’ turnout at Tinian Public Library
Tinian Public Library has launched its pilot program called Kukunitus Program. Kukunitus is the Chamorro name for the world’s favorite insect; a colorful spotted ladybug.
The Kukunitus Program addresses learning standards for children ages 4 to 7 years old; meeting four days a week: Monday through Thursday from 9am to 11:30am.
Daily activities are based on accountability movement in education and build upon research on what the children must know and able to do. The activities provide experiences to encourage the children to stretch to a reasonable amount of effort to acquire new skills. The program’s objectives is to prepare children to enter school in September with improved levels of foundational skills in language reading and mathematics. Basic computer skills are also introduced for the 6- and 7-year-olds.
Tutors are Work Investment Agency trainees for the summer and volunteers and teaching staff with many years of education experience. The love for learning; acquire the ability to make choices and discover a sense of their own competence are just a few of those values driving the Kukunitus Program.
Kukunitus has reached its maximum capacity with a waiting list. Tinian Public Library will analyze its data after the program to determine the design of the next youth development program to be implemented.
Tinian Public Library extends its appreciation to Mayor Dela Cruz for his support to the library and the Kukunitus Program.
