Kagman High School senior student Akeiko M. Dela Cruz has earned for herself membership in the National Society of High School Scholars for demonstrating superior academic excellence.

Dela Cruz, a daughter of Violeta and Manases T. Dela Cruz, is a consistent honor and is among the top of her class since her freshman year. She said it has been her dream to join the prestigious organization as her two other sisters had also been accepted to the group.

According to Claes Nobel, society founder and chairman, Dela Cruz has been selected for membership for her excellent academic achievements. The society of scholars recognizes top students and invites only those who have achieved academic excellence.

“I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Akeiko has demonstrated to achieve this level of academic excellence. Akeiko is now a member of a unique community of scholars—a community that represents our best hope for the future,” said Nobel, who is also a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

Dela Cruz said she is deeply honored for the recognition. “I am happy that I was also accepted to this group where my two other sisters were also members. I was surprised and very grateful for this honor because it will provide me greater opportunities for my future,” she told Saipan Tribune.

Aside from being a consistent honor student, Dela Cruz is also involved in academic competitions here and off-island. Last summer, she was among the members of the CNMI Team that competed in a thespian festival in Lincoln, Nebraska in June. Dela Cruz, a consistent gold medal winner in the regional thespian contests, competed in the duet acting category at the national level. This marked her third year in the national thespian event.

Dela Cruz is also a member of the Public School System Teen Talk program and has also participated in the Summer Health Career Program. The incoming senior at Kagman High School was recently elected as the new president of the National Honor Society.

Membership to the society of scholars entitles qualified students to enjoy variety of benefits including scholarship opportunities. It was formed in 2002 and has more than 530,000 members in over 160 countries.
