GBL meeting this Friday
The newly assembled Garapan Basketball League is holding an initial meeting for its upcoming IT&E Cup season this Friday from 6pm to 7pm at the Community Development Center in Garapan. The presence of all coaches and managers of interested teams is requested.
GBL’s inaugural season is expected to tip off some time this late September.
“The GBL aspires to be the CNMI’s premier outdoor basketball league and we are confident that our format will provide a high-level of competition,” said GBL’s Rey Perez.
Perez also assured that the league would promote camaraderie and basketball safety at all times.
Perez also organized the QQ Car Rental Basketball Cup for the past two seasons where he has provided numerous community service projects at the Garapan Basketball Court in that span, teaming up with Rollers Basketball Club youth group in the process.
GBL organizers are shooting to have nine teams for its 18-and-older men’s division, in addition to six teams for a separate U16 junior division, which is intended as a developmental program for youth athletes.
The league is open to players of all nationalities in both divisions.
Its first season is slated to conclude in December and will resume for a second spell in April 2012. GBL also plans on holding a third edition, starting again in September of next year.
