Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has extended his off-island trip and is now in San Diego, California after attending a renewable energy fair in Fairbanks, Alaska on Sunday.

The administration earlier said he’s expected to be back early this week.

Press secretary Angel Demapan said yesterday that the governor is expected to be back on Monday, Aug. 22.

“He is now in San Diego, where he will be meeting with officials from the Department of Justice,” Demapan said.

It’s not known what the meeting with Justice is all about at this time.

Fitial and first lady Josie Fitial left for Alaska on Aug. 12 to attend the 6th Annual Renewable Energy Fair on Aug. 14, at the invitation of Chena Hot Springs Resort owner Bernie Karl and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). The administration expects Murkowski to also visit Saipan next year.

The couple’s Alaska trip came barely two weeks after they returned from almost a month of off-island trips for personal and official business in Japan and the U.S. mainland.

Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, who just buried his wife of 40 years on Monday, has been the acting governor since Friday.
