Guam Guard soldiers arrive on US soil
The second wave of soldiers, assigned to the 1-294th Infantry Regiment, Guam Army National Guard, has arrived in Camp Shelby, MS, to begin the demobilization process.
An additional 241 soldiers arrived safely in Camp Shelby, MS, Sunday night, bringing the total to 342.
“This is obviously great news!, Although they are not yet on Guam, they are out of harm’s way. And that is a relief for all of us—an early Christmas gift for their families, for the Guard and for our Island community,” said Maj. Gen. Benny M. Paulino, The Adjutant General for the Guam National Guard. “We’re halfway there and continue to pray for safe travels of our remaining soldiers.”
The battalion’s close to 600 soldiers deployed to Afghanistan early this year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan.
The first wave of 101 soldiers arrived on Saturday morning (Guam time).
“As we continue to welcome home our battalion soldiers, we must remember that we still have 31 airmen from the Guam Air National Guard’s 254th Security Forces Squadron and four soldiers from the Guam Army National Guard’s 1990th Contingency Contracting Team deployed during this holiday season in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Please keep them and their families in your prayers,” Paulino added. (PR)
