A 36-year-old man was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to illegal possession of over two pounds of marijuana.

Teddy I. Lequigan entered a plea agreement with the government in exchange for a lesser jail sentence.

He was originally charged with illegal possession of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as ice, importation of a contraband and illegal possession of marijuana.

Court records said he illegally possessed the controlled substance and caused another to import ice into the Commonwealth.

If convicted, Lequigan faces maximum jail term of five years and $2,000 fine for each charge.

By changing his plea, the government dismissed the two other charges.

Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan sentenced him to 30 days in jail and will not be eligible for parole.

He was also placed on probation for a year and was ordered to pay a fine of $400.

Lequigan also waived his right to appeal the decision and was ordered to perform 150 hours of community work. He will also pay restitution of $100 to the DARE program.

Lequigan started serving his sentence last Tuesday.
