CUC comes closer to customers
In a move to make life easier on its customers, the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation announced Monday plans to open customer service centers throughout the island.
Right now, CUC opearates two centers: one in Lower Base, the other in San Jose. CUC Executive Director Timothy P. Villagomez says that he will open a third office in the Joeten Dandan Center in February and a fourth in northern Saipan as soon as space is confirmed.
“This is truly a move to make life easier on our customers. We want them to feel good about paying their monthly bills, allow them the opportunity to get to know the employees in their village center, feel comfortable about reporting water leaks, asking for improved services, and being a part of their community utility,” Villagomez explained.
From an operations point of view, it’s actually harder to run a business that is spread all over the island; however, it will benefit the people.
Customers who use the San Jose office can attest to the service. Last month, CUC opened a new payment center that now accommodates more customers — including those who are handicapped. According to Villagomez, each of the customer service centers will feature credit advisors who will help customers with monthly payment plans and assist those who were disconnected.
By February, the central executive offices will be located in the Dandan facility as the Lower Base warehouse area does not meet safety codes or disability codes, and it is falling apart.
Customers complain that it’s a nightmare of a maze to find the correct department. The executive director said the structure will eventually be torn down to make way for a new power plant.
Just as soon as rental space is confirmed in Tanapag, As Matuis or Marpi, another customer service will open for customers in northern Saipan.
“We are a community utility, and it’s nice to get closer to customers,” Villagomez said Monday.
