Speeding van kills pedestrian

The week-long count of fatalities on Saipan continues as one female pedestrian died after she was hit by a van Friday afternoon in Dandan.

According to a media release prepared by the Department of Public Safety, a passenger van tried to avoid the victim who was crossing the road coming from the parking lot of Joeten Dandan.

However, the van collided with another vehicle and swerved back to the inner lane, hitting the victim.

DPS medics dispatched to the scene rushed her to the Commonwealth Health Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:55 PM. She suffered multiple fractures on her ribs and leg, serious head injuries and other internal wounds

As of presstime, the victim’s name was withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Investigation section is looking into this case.
