Three more celebrities join Sports Challenge
Naoko Sato, once Japan’s top seeded tennis player; Mitsuo Hirukawa, a PGA senior; and Chris Faildo, Hawaii’s top bodybuilder, will join 14 other sports celebrities in next month’s Northern Marianas Sports Challenge, its organizers said yesterday.
CNMI will be hosting the ten-day sports activities, which begin July 8, to attract tourists, stir business activities, and keep kids away from drugs.
Former Olympians and athletes from the United States and Japan have been invited to participate in different sports activities that will be held on Saipan, Rota and Tinian.
Sato, Hirukawa and Faildo add to the growing list of sports personalities that have been invited to participate in sports clinics, competition, family activities and golf tournament.
Hirukawa, who has won most Japan Senior Golf outings, will conduct clinics and will be available for several events with the cooperation of the Coral Ocean Point Golf Course.
Sato, who is also an accomplished writer, is familiar with Saipan having held clinics for the Hotel Nikko.
Faildo, who has been involved in promoting drug-free body-building, will hold clinics at the Saipan Fitness Center.
Aside from the sports clinics, there will be some special events during the week where the public can meet and talk with guest athletes. A Sunset Cocktail Cruise will be held on July 11th with PDI, an Island Fiesta at the Pacific Gardenia on July 12th, a Ladies Luncheon at the Aqua Resort Club on July 12th, Casino Night at the
Tinian Dynasty on July 15th, a Governor’s Celebrity Gold Tournament on July 16th, and the Water Olympics at PIC on July 17th.
Organizers of Sports Challenge said membership cards are now available for those interested in joining the activities. Prices are $10 for youths, $25 for adults and $50 for a family of four.
The public may get the membership cards at the Ada Gym, Saipan Fitness Center, or through Chris Kaipat at the new Court House or board members.
The public may contact organizers at 234-1001, 235-2422 or 234-9716 for more information.
