The July 10 musical salon sponsored by the Friends of the Arts will feature readings of Micronesian tales from Palau and the Marianas by Nancy Flood, author of From the Mouth of the Monster Eel and Pacific Islands Legends.
In addition, the salon will include a medley of songs by students of the Marianas Academy of Music and Arts in both vocal and keyboard renditions.
Included in the readings will be the story of the breadfruit tree from Palau and another from the Marianas.
Flood will also be discussing some of the important cultural elements in Chamorro culture as manifested by these stories and legends.
Held every second Sunday of the month at the Commonwealth Museum of History and Culture, FOA takes pride in sponsoring informal afternoons featuring professional and amateur musical talents from the residents of Saipan and occasional visitor.
There is no admission fee for members FOA and the Friends of the Museum. Admission fees for non-members are $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for students. Children under 12 and adults over 54 are admitted free.
Red Cross needs
your help
Anytime of the day, any day of the year, the Red Cross in the Northern Mariana Islands is prepared to respond. When a family loses their home to fire, when a wife needs to contact her husband thousands of miles away in the US Armed Services, when safety is a priority and training is needed, the Red Cross is there. Volunteers and staff maintain current knowledge of how to respond quickly and ensure that emergency needs of the community are met.
You help is needed to support the NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross and its services. At this time, the Red Cross is selling Club 200 tickets, which not only allow you to have the opportunity to win $25,000 in cash, a new vehicle plus other prizes, including trip packages, but also to help the community. Tickets are sold at
$200 per couple which entitles holders a chance to win in the raffle and a dinner for two.
The Club 200 will be held on Saturday, September 4, 1999, from 6:00 PM to 10 PM at the poolside of the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
