A credit card holder found herself drowning in debt and eventually lost her credit privileges.

Here’s a lesson she must have learned: never entrust your credit account even to your friends.

The American Express has canceled Amerla J. Casal’s credit account because of her failure to pay obligations allegedly incurred last year by a couple who purchased plane tickets to Manila on her Amex card with her permission.

Represented by lawyer Eric Smith, Casal filed a civil action suit against Roy Pagsolingan and his wife Maria Victoria because of their alleged failure to pay her close to $5,000 representing the total amount spent by the couple on the tickets plus delinquency charges that appeared on her credit bills.

Casal charged the couple for issuing three unfunded Bank of Hawaii checks which were supposed to write off their credits for their use of her Amex card.

Casal also wants to collect an additional $175 from the couple for the 200,000 mileage points, which she had lost as a result of her failure to settle her Amex bills.

“As a direct result of defendants’ failure and refusal to pay their credit bills on time which resulted [in] cancellation of plaintiff’s credit card, plaintiff’s good credit reputation was ruined,” the complaint said. “Plaintiff lost not only her credit privileges with American Express, but also lost the privilege of obtaining similar credit facilities from other sources.
