New chef at Giovanni’s
Hyatt Regency Saipan’s general manager Mustafa Issa welcomes Yoshio Umekawa as the new Chef de Cuisine at Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant.
Mr. Umekawa began his career in the culinary industry 21 years ago as a cook with the Prince Hotel in Tokyo, Japan where he worked for seven years. To get international exposure, he then moved to England and worked at Nanbantei Restaurant in London as the restaurant’s head chef. Since his overseas career started, he has worked with the Shangri-La Hotel in Manila, the Nishimura Company in Hong Kong, and the Plumeria Resort in Saipan before he joined the Hyatt.
Having worked in both the Eastern and Western worlds, not to mention the Pacific for the past 21 years, Mr. Umekawa brings a wealth of experience to Hyatt Regency Saipan. With his new position as the chef de cuisine at Giovanni’s, he plans to create new and exciting menus that bring the best of both worlds. His goal is to provide all guests who visit Giovanni’s a time they won’t forget, with great food and excellent service.
When asked what his favorite Italian dish is, he shared “Aqua Pazza,” which is a classic Italian cuisine. He promises that Giovanni’s will soon feature new items in the menu, including his favorite dish.
“Yoshio will be a great asset to Hyatt Regency Saipan with his wealth of knowledge and experience,” comments Mr. Issa.
Another goal of Mr. Umekawa before the end of this year is to win the Volkswagen Bug displayed in the hotel’s lobby. Hyatt Regency Saipan, in conjunction with the CHC Volunteers Association, is running “Children of the World Charity Sweepstakes Campaign” to raise money for the needy children of the world. With a purchase of $10 ticket, one can win the Bug and many other wonderful prizes. Tickets are available at the Hyatt.
