“Women hold up half the sky,” is an ancient Chinese saying.

This Saturday, Jan. 29, women are gathering in a Women’s Issues Forum at the Marianas Resource Center from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Cyndy Tice, president of forum sponsor, the United Methodist Women, invites other women to “come and join other women define the issues that confront women today; to come and be a common sense participant in a highly intuitive and widely participatory process.”

The event is promoted as a gathering without designated experts. Women are encouraged to come and express their opinions in a facilitated process where there are no observers, only participants.

Jaime Vergara, executive director of the Marianas Resource Center, and lead facilitator says, “The facilitators do not bring content to the process, only methodology. The participants are encouraged to trust their intuitions. Individual opinions are honored and transformed into group thoughts. Participants do not lean back to listen, they hunker down to work.”

The participatory nature of the event holds the promise that participants can come and have fun with the girls.

The Marianas Resource Center, a not-for profit program arm of Immanuel United Methodist Church, is located behind the Dolphin Wholesale Store. It can be reached by turning into the street between the San Jose Mart and the Dolphin, turning left on the next street and then another left.
