Love begins with one hello
A lot of people say that there is something in the eyes that only hearts can see. Tweety has stubbornly refused to believe that. She had seen emotion-driven intimate relationships that led to alienation and marriages that ended in separation.
So if there is really something in a person’s eyes that her eyes can’t see, it must be something that her heart can’t and will never see either.
Little did she know that her 26-year-old life was bound to take a major leap after doing a live remote broadcast for her radio station from a beach party in Hyatt Regency’s Gilligan’s in June of 1999.
She was introduced to a man she was not aware was already singing “the first time ever I saw your face” at the back of his mind the moment their eyes met.
For Tweety, the introduction was no more than the usual thing she encounters at the course of her career as a radio DJ except that this time, an uncommon exchange of e-mail addresses and telephone numbers took place.
That was the first and last time Tweety saw the man because he flew to Germany the following morning. Sans any anticipation of a call or even a small e-note from him, Tweety went on with her untangled, hassle-free life.
Not until a week after when Mr. One-Of-Them called from Germany. He instantly became Mr. Excitement and from then on developed into Tweety’s regular caller and e-mail buddy, plus the romantic aspect of it of course.
Tweety started enjoying telling stories with Mr. Excitement over the Net for over four months as she looked forward to receiving an e-mail whenever she would open her cyberspace mailbox.
What they had was, without any cloud of doubt, a cyber affair which is not constrictive and oppressive. Cyber affairs teach us how to live with people who are very different from us and people we wouldn’t necessarily choose to be with, as well as with people we are dying to tie the knot with.
Tweety enjoyed the affair minus the fear of getting hurt because it is easier to opt out of it when cyber affair gets uncomfortable. It never turned out to be the case for Tweety and Mr. Excitement, however.
When Mr. Excitement came back to Saipan first week of November last year, he only had a few words to tell her:
“I’m sure there will be times when we will not want to be in the same room. But if I don’t ask you, I know that it will be something I’ll regret the rest of my life. I want us to build a family and spend eternity together. I’m so in love with you, I’d be very honored if you marry me.”
Mr. Excitement uttered these words on the night of his arrival.
Tweety recalls how many times he tried but failed to say what he said he was dying to tell her from the moment she boarded the plane that will bring him to Saipan. She knew he wanted to tell her something but didn’t had the idea what was it all about.
Mr. Excitement mustered enough guts when it was already time to say goodnight. Down on his knees, he held her hand and told her he knew it was her he wanted to wake up with in the morning.
A week later on Nov. 19, 1999, Grace Marie “Miss T” Sanchez and Jeffrey “Mr. Excitement” Fuhrman flew to Bali, Indonesia where they made their vows formal in a solemn, traditional Balinese wedding officiated by a Protestant Minister.
Tweety knows now there are things only hearts can see and there are things only hearts can completely understand even when all it took was one hello for a whirlwind romance to develop into a fairy tale.
