Hopwood Jr. High School is getting a new stage in time for the Year 2000 graduation, thanks to the efforts of the Parents-Teachers Association which raised most of the fund to build the platform.
Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan, House Speaker Benigno Fitial and Senate Vice President Thomas Villagomez led the groundbreaking ceremony which was attended by Hopwood Jr. High teachers and students yesterday.
Hopwood Principal Lourdes T. Mendiola said at least $68,000 have already been identified for the first phase of the construction, while school authorities appeal for additional funding from the government for the project’s second phase.
Phase II of the project, which include a bathroom and change facilities, would require additional $30,000.
Ms. Mendiola said phase one of the project is expected to be completed long before the graduation this summer, while efforts are being intensified to identify funding for the second phase.
