What A Wonderful Day!

This morning I listened to a Louis Armstrong song ‘What a Wonderful Day,” and I said to myself when was the last time I thought that.
Everyday I run around like a crazy chicken trying to rearrange the world and simply forget to count my blessings.

I replayed the song. While staring out the window, I saw several birds feeding on the seeds I had put in the feeder. I noticed the blue sky with speckles of white puffy clouds lazily floating by. I paused to watch as one crashed gently into another to form a floating dragon. Filling my vision were trees with heavy branches and greenery coating the hillsides. And I thought to myself what a wonderful world.

As I walked into the dining room, I greeted my son by sweeping him off his feet, embraced him with a bear-hug and whispered into his ear how much I love him. When my wife strolled in, I gave her a big smile and a smooch. “Thank you for being my wife and the mother of my son.”
And I thought to myself what a wonderful world.

Walking through the garden to my car, my eyes swept over a profusion of colors from an array of blooming flowers. Before me lay a panorama of red, yellow, white, pink, and purple.
Strange that I hadn’t noticed them before. As the warm morning sun brushed my face, I reflected on the bright blessed day and on the dark sacred night. And I thought to myself what a wonderful day.

Passing a schoolyard I saw children running and playing on the swings while laughing carefree only as innocent ones can. I watch them grow and know that they will know more than I ever will. I saw people going by saying hello to people. And I saw friends shaking hands saying, “How do you do.” But what they really mean is “I love you.” And I thought to myself what a wonderful world.

Stopping by the beach, my feet sifted through the sand as I strolled to the ocean’s edge. The gentle rolling waves washed my feet with their coolness. Before me lay a sea of green and blue water. I wondered how many fish, and other sea life along with coral, this vast unfathomable creation of God sustained. In the distance was a sailboat with its sails gasping for wind. To its right was a speed boat towing five persons astride a vinyl banana boat-each waving and laughing as they bounced up and down in this wonder before me. And I thought to myself what a wonderful world.

At work I sat for a few minutes and looked around at my staff as they plodded through their chores. A sense of responsibility gripped me. Their livelihood depended upon my ability to develop a positive and profitable environment. I reflected about each individual and wondered what was his private life like.
There were pictures of children on their desks, and I realized how all of us have a reason for doing what we do. And I thought to myself what a wonderful world.

Closing my eyes I reminisced about what was– is–and will be. I have realities in my past of the work I have done, and of love loved. I recall the sufferings bravely suffered and pray for strength to be brave for future sufferings. For all the brief moments of laughter, health, work, family, friends, and all the beauties that this earth offers me, I shall be proud of what was and shall be. And I thought to myself what a wonderful world. You too have a wonderful world today.
