Throughout this week, the Division of Environmental Quality will spearhead Environmental Awareness Week. Funded in part by Barny’s Pizza and Classic Designs, and involving schools and community organizations from across the island, the week’s activities aim to promote more ecological thinking and an environmentally conscious behavior in the Commonwealth.

Throughout the week, various schools and organizations will clean up beaches under the “Adopt-A-Beach” program. The schools involved are Saipan International School, Saipan Community School, and San Roque Elementary School. National Park Services, the Peleliu Association, and the Catholic Charismatic Movement will also do their part by adopting their own beaches to clean up.

This week also features school presentations and radio discussions of environmental issues.
“Kre-a-shen,” the culminating event for Environmental Awareness Week, will be held at the Hyatt Regency’s Gilligan’s Center on Saturday, April 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Kre-a-shen” will be a fashion show displaying clothing made from recycled materials. Organized by Mount Carmel School’s Fine Arts Department, the recycled fashion show’s clothing line-up is being designed and created by MCS art students, who will also stroll the catwalk to display their creations. Admission for the event is complimentary.
