Teacher recruitment extends to Guam
While the two-day teacher recruitment fair last week recorded over 47 applicants locally, a similar recruitment fair was simultaneously conducted on Guam to fill some 60 vacant teaching positions at the Public School System.
PSS has sent Assistant Human Resources Officer Frank Agulto to the Guam Liaison Office to scout for eligible teachers.
The Human Resources Office said it drew quite a positive turnout of applicants here and on Guam. Interested parties from the states also submitted resumes.
“We have more than enough applicants,” an HR officer said, referring to the original eligibility listing which already had 57 qualified applicants to begin with.
Human Resources Officer Charlie Kentey earlier disclosed that PSS needs some 60 teachers to replace those who have left the system in time for the next busy school year.
During the first day of the job fair held at Joeten Kiyu Public Library last week, 38 applicants already came in and expressed desire to become part of the PSS
The following day, only nine applicants came in for an interview.
HRO further said some applicants already in the eligibility list may overlap those who visited the fair on Thursday and Friday.
PSS conducted a classroom teacher recruitment job fair to screen interested applicants in five main vacancy positions: Classroom Teacher I (junior and high school level needs only), Classroom teacher II, Classroom teacher III, Classroom teacher IV, and SPED teacher (all areas).
U.S. citizens or other applicants who may be legally employed within the CNMI or has legal status to work and stay in the CNMI have equal chances to land the enumerated positions.
They must possess a Bachelor’s Degree acquired from an accredited college or university.
Over 500 teachers are currently employed by PSS today and there are still a lot more teaching positions to fill, according to Education Commissioner Rita H. Inos.
But PSS will only hire new ones based on its ability to fund for the teachers’ salaries, she added. (MM)
