Case of frustrated “Haosiao”

“When they run out of substance, they obviously resort to mudslinging”, so says a highly respected retired TV journalist. Behind his desk was a plaque, inscribed: “Don’t let the bastards wear you down!” This has been and continues to be my personal motto in my profession. As much as I can, I try to sail with a sense of fairness amidst adversity separating people from issues.

Last Monday’s editorial allegedly prepared by the “other” paper’s associate editor did nothing but resort to venomous gobbledygook in total madness. The parasitic “Haosiao”–a reference to bogus journalist in Manila–dedicated a violent and amateurish editorial reaction of the undersigned. If I may clarify certain misgivings to remind this parasitic Haosiao that he’s demonstrated his sterling lack of perception of the true sentiments of the indigenous people.

Fairness is a matter of responsibility that isn’t the forte of the Haosiao and the newspaper he represents. He’s long on shallow and hollow criticisms of local officials but pathetically short in offering solutions. While it is the role of the media to mind the government’s business, it should never lose sight of its responsibility of fair reporting.
The Haosiao needs to wake up to professional ethics for he’s contributed significantly to his paper’s loss of credibility.

I am not sure what’s the Haosiao’s motive. But he’s allegedly scribbled highly irresponsible spins on articles submitted by his co-workers. His colleagues (the ones with impressive journalistic background) are sick and tired of justifying to sources that it’s their sleazy spinmaster of gossip (not fair straight news reporting) who allegedly twisted the original story. You’re both a liability to your newspaper and fellow countrymen.

You’re lucky to be enjoying all that paradise has to offer an amateur who now claims to have an “impressive” journalistic background. You started as a reporter right here although far from what I would call a “good” reporter. You never were able to hone the requisite skills of a true and proven journalist in straight news reporting. You then became a columnist (and you know that this too must be earned) but was granted to you by your showing some promise of equilibrium. Today, you’re an associate editor without real editing experience and it’s an issue I’d like to raise with immigration and labor authorities here:
Do you really have the qualifications for this job? Let’s see your so-called “impressive” journalistic background, i.e., education, experience, etc.

Sooner than later, you need to exit the grand illusion that we tried to recruit your services. The truth is: You approached one of the Tribune reporters seeking employment because you allegedly don’t enjoy working with your editor. You wanted to impose certain conditions, i.e., area of coverage (Capitol Hill) and refused to submit your “impressive” resume` to either the Tribune’s editor and publisher for fear that you really never had any decent journalistic experience. Had the Tribune hired you, it would have been a real learning experience for I would have lowered the boom with assignments that would augment your lack of basic journalistic skills, di ba?
A chance for a column in this newspaper? Pare, you must earn it from guess who?–the man you referred to as the, well, did someone say “mainstream hack?”

Your fellow countrymen who have worked or are working with the Tribune were never pirated.
They had all gone through the process. I’ve carefully watched their final products (while attached to Micronesia’s Leading Newspaper) to determine who has the journalistic experience that meets the standard that I have set. It is obvious that they enjoy the working conditions, sense of professionalism in the Saipan Tribune, their extra efforts reinforced by management and are adequately compensated.
Perhaps herein lies your anger because the Tribune never hired the real hack. Lastly, how about comparing resumes`? Your “impressive” journalistic background would probably pale my resume`, di ba? Nothing can be further from the truth!

Why don’t you focus on helping your countrymen secure better working conditions beginning with their barracks in Dandan?
