House resolutions honor Nakatsukasa, Fr. Bradley
The House of Representatives yesterday adopted two separate resolutions to recognize the contributions to the community of Catholic priest Rev. Gary J. Bradley and former Rep. Pedro T. Nakatsukasa, who both passed away last week.
The move was intended to honor the two prominent individuals who were not qualified to be given state funeral. The resolutions are expected to be presented to the respective deceased family during their funerals this week.
Fr. Bradley, who died June 4 of a heart attack while saying Sunday mass at the Kristo Rai Church, is scheduled to be buried tomorrow at the Chalan Kanoa Cemetery. He was 53.
According to the House, the Jesuit priest was “trusted friend” of many islands in Micronesia, including Saipan where he was the parish priest for Kristo Rai.
Fr. Bradley “had carried out his priestly ministry with love for his Christian community and his willingness to accommodate and help anyone who sought his assistance and advice,” the resolution read.
Lawmakers extended their sympathy and condolence to his family, the Society of Jesus and his friends and parishioners.
In another resolution, the House gave tribute to former congressman Mr. Taisacan who died June 5 of heart attack while undergoing dialysis at the Commonwealth Health Center. He was 53.
Aside from his various government positions, he had also contributed “countless hours of his personal time in numerous community and civic related organizations and government corporations.”
Mr. Nakatsukasa last served as chairman of the Governor’s Developmental Disabilities Council, but he was not eligible for a state funeral as the existing law limits such honor to high-ranking CNMI officials and current members of the Legislature. He is to be buried today.
Rep. Malua T. Peter asked House members to attend the two funerals where they will present the two resolutions.
