SPLASH ISLAND A boost to tourism
Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan and wife Annie led other CNMI officials and business leaders in the grand opening last Saturday of Splash Island, a new attraction floating in the middle of the ocean off Managaha which offers various water sports and entertainment activities.
Anthony Pellegrino, owner of Pelley Enterprises which runs the facilities, welcomed about 50 guests invited for the occasion, who boarded the ferry from Outer Cove Marina for a 10-minute ride to the 15,000 square foot water park.
Splash Island is made of colorful synthetic platform with large-squared holes to accommodate the three main attractions: the swimming pool with water slide, bump boats and pirate boats. It also features racing boats, kayaks, banana boat and other water sports.
Mr. Sablan in his message commended Pelley for coming up with such a venture at a time when the Commonwealth is seeking ways to boost the flagging tourism industry.
“For entrepreneurs and businessmen who have invested so much money in the CNMI, we will show you our support. We will try our best,” he said.
Mr. Pellegrino thanked his family and staff who are the force behind the water park which is now open to the public with special rates being offered to residents to promote awareness.
Aside from Mr. Sablan, others who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing included Marianas Visitors Authority Executive Director Perry P. Tenorio, Saipan Chamber of Commerce President Lynn A. Knight, Port of Saipan Manager Tony Cabrera and other officials.
Guests at the grand opening were treated to rides and use of the various facilities with the assistance of the staff that include licensed lifeguards.
