BANMI sends team to MBT

The board of directors and board of governors of the Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands announced yesterday that the CNMI will send a team to compete in the 2000 Micronesian Basketball Tournament to be held in Marshall Islands on July 26th thru Aug. 7.
BANMI officials met Friday to discuss the concerns raised by the Micronesian Basketball Conference and the Oceania Basketball Confederation regarding the CNMI’s failure to participate in past events.
Local basketball officials finally agreed to send a team composed of players from Saipan, Tinian and Rota who will take part in the regional basketball tournament.
Some 27 players have been recommended for try out, and those who will be selected will have to go through training. A meeting has been scheduled for today at 5:30 p.m. at the Civic Center Basketball Court for all the players.
