BUD LIGHT 4-PERSON BEACH VOLLEYBALL Fro Daddy edges Managaha
Forget going to the movies for action, suspense, or comedy, all are available at the Bud Light Four Person Beach Volleyball League at the Pacific Islands Club every Tuesday and Thursday.
Last week saw things get a little more interesting in the standings. As a team jumped out of the cellar and one team was toppled from the top of the hill. Stirred Not Shaken (0-6) was able to take one of three games from Fro Daddy Ding Dongs (6-1) on Tuesday. They followed up on Thursday by doing the same thing against Ball Bustin Sand Fleas (2-4), another up and coming team. By defeating Stirred Not Shaken, the Fleas were able to move into eighth place passing up T-8 Reef (1-4). The return of the Sand Fleas setter, Toby “Kumasan” Evans seemed to inspire the team. They won for the second time this season. Both wins have come without the presence of team captain, Tommy “White Legs” Kennington.
“It was great to have Kuma back, and we really pull together when Tommy isn’t here for games,” said Crusher Pritchard.
The same seems to be true on the SOS Bandits (3-3). The Bandits won two matches, and team captain Searay “Al Davis” Beltran, was absent from both of them.
With the victory over Stirred Not Shaken on Tuesday and the great news coverage for Blaine Rogers, Fro Daddy Ding Dongs was having a good week. Well, it turned into an awesome week on Thursday when they took down first place and undefeated Managaha (4-1). In doing so, they moved into first and dropped Managaha to third place in an epic match.
Mr. Rogers couldn’t even get out his front door, let alone the rest of the neighborhood, in the first game as Dr. Nick Elieisar put on a clinic in the art of blocking. Managaha seemed to be cruising after an 11-6 victory. Things continued to look grim for Fro Daddy Ding Dongs as they fell behind 9-6 in game two. It took some steady serving from Ironman Russ Quinn and a couple of big bangs by Fro Daddy himself to pull out a come from behind 17-15 win in the second game. The third was no snoozer either as the teams battled it out with Fro Daddy and crew squeezing out an 11-9 win.
Earlier in the week another war raged between Lip Service (3-2) and DFS Super All Stars (5-1). Dougie Fresh Mauro had revenge on his mind when he saw the Sept. 14 match on his calendar. He wanted a piece of Cramer and crew after getting pounded in the last league. All seemed to be going well in the first game, but the Super All Stars let a 9-6 lead slip away and lost game one 11-9.
The second game started the same and despite a surge of points DFS was able to win. A pattern had obviously developed as the third game started the same way after DFS took an 8-1 lead behind some blistering serves by Mauro.
Lip Service refused to die once again and surged to a 10-9 lead. Three chances to win at 10-9 all failed as Mike Mouth Walsh came up with some big blocking against the Bangkok Bomber. The momentum shifted again and DFS finally put Lip Service to rest with a block from Walsh winning 12-10.
