Wasted youth, wasted tax dollars
Our local politicians love it, of course. They love it because it empowers them–because it should capture the youth vote for them.
But this is really a huge mistake. Sensible people–people concerned about the CNMI’s long term interests–should speak out against this political outrage.
Think about it. Our leaders are giving away thousands of dollars–of our money–just so that a bunch of youngsters can play legislator and amuse themselves with the future prospect of exercising political power over others. This is a dangerous and alarming precedent.
Political power should not be liberally exercised. It should not be liberally exercised because it tends to infringe upon our natural liberties and rights.
Our local government should not be encouraging our young people to be attracted to interventionist politics and expansive government. Instead, a smaller, more limited and fiscally prudent local government should always be our number one goal.
Memo to the CNMI youth population: Have some self-respect. Don’t work for the CNMI government. Don’t make this your career goal. Don’t condemn yourself to a life of bureaucracy and mediocrity.
You can do better. You can do much better. You can proudly work for the productive private business sector. You can succeed. Make it a goal to start your own business. Be a professional. You owe it to yourself and to the Commonwealth.
Don’t allow the local government to indoctrinate you with the political spoils system–with government pork spending and corruption. Rely on yourself, not big, bloated government.
The examples are all around you. You don’t have to work for big government to make a decent living. Look to CNMI leaders in the private sector–to prominent people like Marian Aldan Pierce, Joe Ayuyu, Lynn Knight, William Hunter, and many others. They exist. There is life beyond government “service.”
Be different. Don’t be like practically every other local. Don’t be a government worker.
The CNMI Youth Congress is a waste of your time and our money. It is useless. It will not teach you any valuable skills you can use in the private business sector. It will only teach you how to be a political parasite. Reject it. Biba Marianas! We can do better.
