October Sunday Salon: The Yukata

The friends of the Arts, in cooperation with the Commonwealth Museum of History and Culture, and the Japanese Association of Saipan, is pleased to announce that on Sunday, October 8, the monthly Sunday salon will recommence at the Museum from 2 to 4 PM.
Several members of the Japanese Association will be on hand to demonstrate the wearing of the traditional Japanese garment, the Yukata — an informal cotton summer kimono worn by both men and women.
This demonstration is in conjunction with the current exhibit depicting the Japanese civilian period in the Northern Marianas from 1914 to about 1938. The exhibit features photographs (of Chamorros and Carolinians as well as Japanese) and artifacts of the times, many of which were loaned by local citizens as well as many Japanese who themselves or whose parents lived here at the time.
There is no admission charge during the salon and everyone is welcome to both enjoy demonstration and learn something new and tour the exhibit which covers a very important part of Northern Marianas history.
