NMC programs assist students in choosing careers
NMC’s Student Development Department provides special programs, opportunities and guidance to assist students with career direction and planning, and to enhance students’ personal and social skill development.
The Student Development Unit maintains services to students at two primary locations, the Career Resource Center and the Student Center.
The Career Resource Center helps students develop their career and employment potential by providing career and job information, quality learning experiences, and by providing actual on the job training opportunities. Career Resource Center programs and services are designed to complement the institution’s academic programs through career development and employment needs of its students during and after graduation. The Center fulfills its mission by providing three service programs: Career Information Center, Cooperative Education, and Student Work Training.
The Career Information Center assists individuals in identifying their career interests and skills, helps locate training opportunities for particular academic or vocational interests and ensures individuals are provided with an Educational and Employment information library. The following additional services are offered: Career Assessment Tests, Catalog and Applications Library Career guidance, Computerized Career and Employment Software programs, and Employment Training.
Cooperative Education provides career development information and courses to students and valuable work experience opportunities outside the college campus in their chosen field of study. Individuals enrolled in Cooperative Education courses may receive both academic credits and income for work experience. Individuals may receive work-training experience through the following programs: Campus based funding programs, Cooperative education courses, Internships, Federal work study programs, CRC off campus referral program, and JTPA.
Another focus of development is our Student Center. The Center provides students opportunities and services that enhance personal and social skills which complement their academic studies. The Center is designed so students can gather in a relaxed atmosphere to share ideas and develop old or new relationships. Student Center staff create opportunities and events that promote interaction between our students, NMC staff, faculty, and the CNMI community. The Student Center is equipped with a music system, TV room, pool table, soda and snack machines, and other table games. The Center also provides study and meeting rooms for individuals, groups or NMC Clubs. The Center staff also prepares an annual student activity calendar.
The Career Resource Center is located in Building I and the Student Center in Building J. For more information on Student Development programs, please call 234-5498, ext. 1350, or visit our web site at www.nmcnet.edu.
