Filipinos form Samahang Ilokano Pangasinense-NMI
The Samahang Ilokano-Pangasinense in the Northern Mariana Islands (SIP-NMI), a Filipino ethnic organization, was formally established last Oct. 22, 2000 at the Joeten-Kiyu Conference Room in Susupe.
It was formed to foster unity and camaraderie among Filipinos working in the CNMI and to serve the needs of their constituents and the CNMI community through its programs.
Nonresident workers and residents who hail from the Northern part of Luzon elect their primary set of officers for the year 2000-2001. Elected officers are Nestor Alegre (president), Concepcion Van Der Veen (vice-president internal), Bong De Guzman (vice-president external), Gloria Salazar (secretary internal), Paulita Martinez (secretary external), Antonio Soriano (treasurer), Alejo Doctor (auditor) and Haidee Eugenio (public relations officer), while Roberto Alegre, Jose George Poquiz, Floro Garcia and Roberto Tamondong were elected board of directors.
Induction ceremony will be held concurrently with their Christmas party on December 2000. All Ilokanos and Pangasinenses living and working in the CNMI are urged to join the organization. For membership inquiry, please contact Nestor Alegre at 233-6434 or 234-9272.
