MASTERS BASKETBALL LEAGUE GTE defeats Old Aces
GTE Pacifica eliminated Old Aces 82-63 in the playoffs of the Masters Basketball League in the first game of action Saturday at the NMC Gym.
GTE Pacifica will battle it out with NMC Fakpi tonight at the NMC Gym for the right to face Badtz Maru for the crown. Badtz Maru, who is sponsored by Sanrio, advanced to the finals by defeating NMC-Fakpi.
GTE Pacifica used their height advantage over the Old Aces. Ed Cosino lead GTE with 21 points, 1 assist, 1 blocked shot, 7 rebounds, and 2-steals while Felix Palacios had 17 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal to help out his team.
Old Aces had 25 points, 1 assists, 10 rebounds, and a steal coming from Jack Diaz, while Elias Rangamar contributed 15 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, and a steal in a losing cause.
With the victory GTE Pacifica will have to defeat NMC Fakpi Thursday night in order for them to defend their crown and will have to beat Badtz Maru twice to retain their Masters title.
Badtz Maru advanced to the championship round of the 2nd Masters Basketball League playoffs Saturday night at the NMC Gym.
Oscar Masga lead the Badtz Maru attack with 22 points, 2 assists, 12 rebounds, and a steal, while the steady point guard of Badtz Maru Art Moses poured in 16 points, 4 assists, and a rebound.
NMC was led by Arnold Mesa with 23 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds, and 1 steal in a losing cause.
NMC will have to beat GTE Pacifica in order for them to go into the championship round to face Badtz Maru.
Next game is tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the NMC Gym between GTE Pacifica and NMC Fakpi.
Meanwhile, the league informs all interested team coaches, representatives, and players who would like to participate in the upcoming 22 & under basketball league that there will be a meeting on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ada Gym conference room.
